Florence Tours
Florence tours are essential in order to see and experience the sights and sounds in and around Florence. Each of the recommended entities is a historical and important sight all on its own. We have gathered together a series of these sights and compiled them into several walking tours for your relaxed tour of the city known as the Belle of Tuscany.
TOUR #1... - 4 hours Minimum
- Arrive at the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and, for the strong of heart, take the stairs to the cupola and its unbelievable city views.
- to the Uffizi Gallery where one can spend some time with the phenomenal art of the Masters of the Renaissance.
- a visit to Florence must include Brunelleschi's Dome which sits atop the Duomo of Florence. This is the rust-colored dome that can be seen from anywhere you might be in Florence. The multiple colors of marble used in the construction of the buildings is also very worthy of your attention. The Baptistry with its octagonal shape as well as the Giotto Belfry will captivate you, as well.
- Next we walk to the Academy Gallery where the original marble statue of David by Michelangelo resides.
- Move now to the spectacular, sculptered tombs of the Medici which are found in the San Lorenzo Church.
- Cross over the indescribable Ponte Vecchio - passing by all the artisan shops - stopping to view the Arno River that flows beneath it.
- the day is completed just up the street at the Pitti Palace at the rear of which will be found the luxurious Boboli Gardens.
The extensiveness of Florence tours will illustrate to you most of the major historic sites found in the city of Florence.
For another day or days....the following Florence tours should be undertaken until you cannot bear to see another historic site. These are one-of-a-kind and will not be duplicated in any of your future travels UNLESS you, as many others, choose to return to the Belle of Tuscany.
At the end of any version of Florence tours...a glass of Vin Santo with a biscotti taken at a front-row table at the Signoria Piazza...is a very romantic way of finishing a long day of walking, photographing, and visualizing. While in the area - if your feet permit - the Loggia della Signoria contains several statues of note.
The Straw Market adjacent to the Piazza della Signoria will satisfy the shoppers in the group and while there...don't forget to stroke the nose of Il Porcellino as this will give you Good Luck and guarantee your return.
The Church of Orsanmichele contains many statues by Donantello and Verrochio just to name a few. The building itself is a magnificent carved stone structure that is very old and very pleasing to admire.
Finally, the famous San Lorenzo Market can be found at the end of the street directly forward from the Ponte Vecchio. Just follow the road and watch for the 'hundreds' of kiosks and booths where one can find virtually anything that is worthy of being made, built, or sold.
Florence tours does not pretend to offer the most complete, concise, or perfect walking tour of the city of Florence. It is, rather, an accumulation of our experiences gathered from multiple visits to this wonderful piece of history that is waiting for your exploration.
